This is not re-printed with permission. I hope you all won&#8217;t have to visit me in Poetry Jail. The poems are funny, tender, and honest, and some of them send goosebumps up my arms. My commentary this morning will not go beyond that. I simply leave the poem for you to enjoy. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A Drink in the Night&#8221; by Deborah Garrison:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My eyes opened<br \/>\nat once for you were standing<br \/>\nby my side, you&#8217;d padded<br \/>\nin to ask for a drink in the night. <\/p>\n<p>The cup was&#8212;-where?<br \/>\nFallen down, behind?<br \/>\nChurning in the dishwater, downstairs?<br \/>\nToo tired to care, I cupped<br \/>\nmy hand and tipped it<br \/>\nto you. You stared, gulped,<br \/>\nsome cold down your chin.<br \/>\nWhispered, &#8220;Again!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>O wonder.
