This morning over at Kirkus<\/em>, I discuss His Shoes Were Far Too Tight<\/em>, Chronicle Books’s recently-released collection of Edward Lear poems, “masterminded” by Daniel Pinkwater<\/a><\/strong> and illustrated by Calef Brown<\/a><\/strong>. The link is here<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n If you missed last week’s column, I wrote an ode of sorts to the TOON Books<\/a><\/strong> series (now a Candlewick imprint). These early-reader comics were launched in 2008 by Fran\u00e7oise Mouly<\/strong><\/a> and Art Spiegelman<\/strong><\/a>, and they deliver on many levels. Here’s<\/a><\/strong> the scoop. <\/p>\n Below are some spreads from Geoffrey Hayes’s<\/a><\/strong> Patrick in a Teddy Bear\u2019s Picnic and Other Stories<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (April 2011). Opening this post is a spread from Agn\u00e8s Rosenstiehl’s<\/a><\/strong> new Silly Lilly<\/em> title, What Will I Be Today?<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (February 2011).
