Amy gives <em>Kirkus<\/em> readers the low-down on the winners of this year&#8217;s Gold and Silver awards, as well as some of the history behind this award and its significance in the field of children&#8217;s lit. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/Wonderstruck_Cover_highresa.jpg\" style=\"float:right;\">As you&#8217;ll see tomorrow, should you be so inclined to go read the column, I also threw in a group shot of the 2011 jury. We may look very tired, as the picture was taken after a day of looking at over 500 picture books, but we are the happy kind of tired. <\/p>\n<p>That link will be <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/blog\/\">here<\/a><\/strong> in the morning. <em>{Edited to add on Friday: The link is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/blog\/childrens\/lets-hear-it-art\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>.}<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/blog\/childrens\/all-signs-point-wonderstruck\/\">last week&#8217;s <em>Kirkus<\/em> column<\/a><\/strong>, I discussed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theinventionofhugocabret.com\/about_brian_bio.htm\">Brian Selznick&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> latest title, <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9780545027892\">Wonderstruck<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, to be released by Scholastic on September 13th. Today I&#8217;m here to show two gorgeous spreads from the book. One is above, and there&#8217;s one more below. (&#8220;While <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9780439813785\">Hugo<\/a><\/strong><\/em> was beautifully crafted, <em>Wonderstruck<\/em> is even more so,&#8221; I wrote last week. &#8220;I found myself lingering over the pencil drawings of young Rose in particular. This is some of Selznick\u2019s most visually arresting work.&#8221;) <\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the young Rose pictured above.
