The link is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/blog\/childrens\/outside-box-eric-carle\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><center>* * * * * * *<\/center><\/p>\n<p>For <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/blog\/childrens\/nursery-rhymes-go-graphic\/\">last week&#8217;s column<\/a><\/strong>, I discussed the brand-new <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9781596436008\">Nursery Rhyme Comics<\/a><\/em><\/strong> from First Second Books, a collection of 50 rhymes as re-imagined by cartoonists. Below, I&#8217;ve got some of the cartoons from that to share. Included right is a cutting from graphic novelist <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Craig_Thompson\">Craig Thompson&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> very entertaining re-imagining of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Lear\">Edward Lear&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Owl_and_the_Pussycat\">The Owl &#038; the Pussycat<\/a><\/strong>.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Yet while we&#8217;re on the subject of nursery rhymes and songs for young children, I&#8217;m also sharing some spreads from Caldecott medalist <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jerrypinkneystudio.com\/\">Jerry Pinkney&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9780316056960\"><em>Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, released this month from Little, Brown, which features one chipmunk&#8217;s night-time adventure. I&#8217;m also including spreads from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=1844\">Jackie Morris&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Cat-Fiddle-Treasury-Nursery-Rhymes\/dp\/1845079876\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;qid=1318556255&#038;sr=8-1\"><em>The Cat and the Fiddle: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, published by Frances Lincoln Children&#8217;s Books in late September. Both books are beautiful.
