That was her name.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\nYesterday over at <em>Kirkus<\/em>, I chatted briefly with author\/illustrator <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=1468\">Sergio Ruzzier<\/a><\/strong> about his two new picture books and what&#8217;s next for him. That is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/features\/catching-sergio-ruzzier\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>, and next week here at 7-Imp, I&#8217;ll have art and early sketches from each book. <\/p>\n<p>Today, I&#8217;ve got some thoughts on a new historical fiction picture book, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.deborahhopkinson.com\/\">Deborah Hopkinson&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <em>Knit Your Bit: A World War I Story<\/em>, illustrated by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/stevenguarnaccia.com\/\">Steven Guarnaccia<\/a><\/strong>. That link is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/features\/knit-your-bit-vibrantly-depicts-wwi-deborah-hopkin\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><center>* * *<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Pictured here today are illustrations from Swedish illustrator <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eva_Eriksson_(illustrat%C3%B6r)\">Eva Eriksson<\/a><\/strong> from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rose_Lagercrantz\">Rose Lagercrantz&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/My-Happy-Life-Rose-Lagercrantz\/dp\/1877579351\">My Happy Life<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (Lagercrantz is also Swedish), a chapter book release from Gecko Press, a New Zealand-based publisher of English versions of award-winning international children&#8217;s books. Originally published in Sweden in 2010, this book was released here in the U.S. last month. I wrote about it <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/features\/hard-won-happiness-heart-my-happy-life\/\">here<\/a><\/strong> last week at <em>Kirkus<\/em> and am following up this week with a bit of art from Eriksson. <\/p>\n<p>Enjoy. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_12aaa.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;During the second recess, she noticed another girl by herself.<br \/>She was just watching, too.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_13bbb.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;They played on the swings until the bell rang.<br \/>They played on them through all the other recesses, too.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_23aaa.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;That happened sometimes. Not being friends.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_23bbb.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;But not for long. They usually made up after a minute or two. You couldn&#8217;t find a better friend than Ella. She and Dani stuck together through wet and dry,<br \/>sun and rain, thick and thin.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_26aaa.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;Dani drew a red cow with big horns. Ella didn&#8217;t draw anything. She sat with her hands over her eyes. &#8216;What&#8217;s the matter?&#8217; whispered Dani. &#8216;Are you crying?&#8217;<br \/>Ella didn&#8217;t answer.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_26bbb.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;The teacher had to explain. Ella was moving away. When Dani heard that,<br \/>she started to cry, too. She cried and cried. But what could she do?&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_53aaa.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;&#8230;They took them to the recycling center and bought chewing gum with the money.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/MyHappyLife_Insides_USA_01 _Page_53bbb.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;Dani and Jonathan started a competition to see who had the most stickers, the ones you find on apples and bananas.
