For a long time, an unmeasurable amount of time, it was like running in an airy dream.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\nThis morning over at <em>Kirkus<\/em>, I discuss the latest picture book from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=1609\">Don Brown<\/a><\/strong>, who continually brings young readers top-notch nonfiction picture books. His latest is <em>Henry and the Cannons: An Extraordinary True Story of the American Revolution<\/em>. That link is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/features\/don-browns-latest-bumps-it-notch\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><center>* * *<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Last week, I wrote about <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilarymckay.co.uk\/\">Hilary McKay&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <em>Lulu<\/em> chapter book series, which is simply all kinds of delightful. That link is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/features\/lulu-welcome-import-across-ocean\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>, and today I follow up with art from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.priscillalamont.com\/\">Priscilla Lamont<\/a><\/strong> &#8212; illustrations from both <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9780807548202\">Lulu and the Dog from the Sea<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (Albert Whitman &#038; Company, March 2013) and <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9780807548080\">Lulu and the Duck in the Park<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (September 2012). <\/p>\n<p>Enjoy. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/LuluDog_3a.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;&#8216;Why?&#8217; asked Lulu. &#8216;What about the more the merrier,<br \/>as long as I clean up after them?'&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/LuluDog_4a.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;Lulu&#8217;s family made a camp too, a very large one, because there seemed to be<br \/>so many things they could not do without.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/LuluDog1a.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;&#8216;He&#8217;s a hero,&#8217; said Lulu, and she gave the dog from the sea one last hug before she climbed into her seat beside Mellie and Sam. &#8216;He&#8217;s ours and we love him,<br \/>and we&#8217;re taking him with us.'&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/luludog.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/LuluDuck_1a.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;Lulu was famous for animals. Her famousness for animals was known<br \/>throughout the whole neighborhood.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/LuluDuck_3a.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;The book made Lulu and Mellie rather sad. Mother ducks, it said,<br \/>talked to their ducklings before they were even hatched.&#8221;<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/jules\/LuluDuck_2a.jpg\"><br \/>\n<center><em>&#8220;Lulu jumped with shock. No more smooth egg. Fragments of shell.<br \/>No more warm stillness. A fluttering struggle for freedom.
