Better late than never, right?

I always like to follow up my Kirkus columns here at 7-Imp with art from the books I write about over there. That’s on account of me being a big picture book and illustration fan. And Kirkus likes me to wait about a week to do that, which is why I all the time have posts with names like “What I’m Doing at Kirkus This Week, Plus What I Did Last Week, Featuring So-and-So.” (Not very creative, but hey, sometimes direct titles are best.)

But the holidays got busy, and the art from the books in my Children’s Book Ghost File column never got posted. I’m going to fix that today. I’ve got art here this morning from three of those books. Just three, because The Girl Who Drank the Moon and Ghost are novels — and illustration-less. Sadly, I don’t have art from David Barrow’s Have You Seen Elephant? And I’ll have art and process images (!) from Barbara McClintock’s Lost and Found: Adèle and Simon in China a bit later here at 7-Imp.

This leaves Alessandro Sanna’s Pinocchio: The Origin Story (Enchanted Lion, August 2016), Martin Brown’s Lesser Spotted Animals: The Coolest Creatures You’ve Never Heard Of (David Fickling Books, December 2016), and Kaya Doi’s Chirri & Chirra (Enchanted Lion, September 2016). I’ve got a bit of art from each today. As a reminder, if you want to read about them, that’s here.

Enjoy the art!

From Alessandro Sanna’s
Pinocchio: The Origin Story

(Click second image to enlarge and see spread in its entirety)

From Martin Brown’s
Lesser Spotted Animals: The Coolest Creatures You’ve Never Heard Of

“So how come all we ever see are those other big-ish bovines?
