\nI wrote here<\/a><\/strong> at Kirkus<\/em> at the end of March about some new picture books with multi-faceted, groundbreaking, innovative, and\/or otherwise complex women of all stripes, both real and fictional. <\/p>\n

I’m following up today with art from each book — Rachel Himes’<\/a><\/strong> Princess and the Peas<\/em> (Charlesbridge, April 2017); Matthew Clark Smith\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> Lighter than Air: Sophie Blanchard, the First Woman Pilot<\/em>, illustrated by Matt Tavares<\/a><\/strong> (Candlewick, March 2017); Rapha\u00eble Frier’s<\/a><\/strong> Malala: Activist for Girls\u2019 Education<\/em> (Charlesbridge, February 2017), illustrated by Aur\u00e9lia Fronty<\/a><\/strong> and first published in France in 2015; and Victoria Turnbull’s<\/a><\/strong> Pandora<\/em> (Clarion, April 2017). <\/p>\n

And while we’re on the subject of Victoria Turnbull, I’ve got some spreads from her Kings of the Castle<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, coming later this month from Candlewick. Because, why not? <\/p>\n
