It&#8217;s a special job. &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/center><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\nOver at <em>BookPage<\/em>, I&#8217;ve a review of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curtismanley.com\/\">Curtis Manley&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <em>The Rescuer of Tiny Creatures<\/em> (Roaring Brook, June 2021), illustrated by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=5004\">Lucy Ruth Cummins<\/a><\/strong>. New kickers are always welcome.<\/p>\n<p><font size=4><strong>1)<\/strong><\/font> Sadly, children&#8217;s literature lost two greats this week. Huge losses. But we are to find the kicks, right? I&#8217;m grateful for the life and legacy of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/05\/26\/970974320\/eric-carle-creator-of-the-very-hungry-caterpillar-has-died\">Eric Carle<\/a><\/strong> &#8230; <\/p>\n<p><font size=4><strong>2)<\/strong><\/font> &#8230; particularly <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carlemuseum.org\/\">the museum<\/a><\/strong> he left us. <\/p>\n<p><font size=4><strong>3)<\/strong><\/font> And the work of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/05\/26\/1000742114\/chicka-chicka-boom-boom-illustrator-lois-ehlert-dies-at-86\">Lois Ehlert<\/a><\/strong>. I got to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bookpage.com\/interviews\/16247-lois-ehlert-childrens#.YLJA7qhKguU\">interview her<\/a><\/strong> back in 2014 for <em>BookPage<\/em> (via phone, though I <em>wish<\/em> it&#8217;d been in person!), and she said to me on a chilly day early in the year: \u201cIt is these gray winter days that stir my creativity. I am so happy to stay in and work. I am sitting here right now with a bag of scraps on my drawing board. I have green paint underneath my fingernails. I am as happy as a clam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><font size=4><strong>4)<\/strong><\/font> I like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CPXYokqHGWw\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\">this tribute to Carle<\/a><\/strong> from Jon Klassen.<\/p>\n<p><font size=4><strong>5)<\/strong><\/font> We&#8217;ve had a nest of robins in our rose bush for weeks now. The babies have been born! They have even flown away.
