Bruno discusses his illustrations for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Davide_Cali\">Davide Cal\u00ec&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> <em>Mio nonno gigante<\/em>, published in 2018; illustrating for <em>The New York Times<\/em>; the artistic collective he created with two illustrator friends; and more. We haven&#8217;t seen Bruno&#8217;s work published here in the States, but I hope we do one day. <\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s get right to it. Here is Bruno \u2014 in his own words. I thank him for visiting and sharing so much art. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><center>* * *<\/center><\/p>\n<p><BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\n<center><strong><font size=4><em>On the award-winning <\/em>Mio Nonna Gigante<em>:<\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/center><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\nIn 2018, I was contacted by the Italian publishing house <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biancoeneroedizioni.it\/\">Biancoenero Edizioni<\/a><\/strong> to create the illustrations for <em>Mio nonno gigante<\/em> (2018) [pictured below], a small illustrated book with text by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Davide_Cali\">Davide Cal\u00ec<\/a><\/strong>. The following year, those illustrations won the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.premioletteraturaragazzi.it\/\">Premio Letteratura Ragazzi<\/a><\/strong>, which was a nice surprise. It&#8217;s the story of a grandfather who becomes more than six meters tall. At one point, he escapes to town as a sort of King Kong and his family follows his trail to bring him back home. It was 2013, and I had just finished my studies. When the first commission arrived, I instantly forgot how to use a pencil. Fortunately, somehow, I got away with it. During the years of collaboration with <em>The New York Times<\/em>, I also made illustrations for the <em>Book Review<\/em> section where I had the opportunity to work on book reviews or excerpts of plots. We experiment through illustrations, workshops, sets, exhibitions, and installations. The project was born from the desire to collaborate and try to intertwine different signs, investigating the most mysterious aspects of drawing. I also had some nice editions of fairy tales illustrated by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antonio_Lupatelli\">Tony Wolf<\/a><\/strong> and <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Bears%27_Famous_Invasion_of_Sicily\">La famosa invasione degli orsi in Sicilia<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dino_Buzzati\">Dino Buzzati<\/a>,<\/strong> who is still one of my great authors of reference.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up, I discovered the wonderful books of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Gorey\">Edward Gorey<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrensbookstore.com\/contributor\/ct-victoria-chess\/\">Victoria Chess<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomiungerer.com\/\">Tomi Ungerer<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Remy_Charlip\">Remy Charlip<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arnold_Lobel\">Arnold Lobel<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andr%C3%A9_Fran%C3%A7ois\">Andr\u00e9 Francois<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dr._Seuss\">Dr. Seuss<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beni_Montresor\">Beni Montresor<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maurice_Sendak\">Maurice Sendak<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Raymond_Briggs\">Raymond Briggs<\/a><\/strong>. These are authors and artists who are a great source of inspiration and from which I learned a lot.<br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/7pics\/2022\/02\/buzzatiuse.jpg\" border=1><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/7pics\/2022\/02\/Leo Lioni, Pezzettinouse.jpg\" border=1><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\nI also really like the books of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=5474\">Sergio Ruzzier<\/a><\/strong>, whom I&#8217;m lucky enough to know in person, and those by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jonagee.com\/\">Jon Agee<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=2374\">Blexbolex<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blaine.org\/sevenimpossiblethings\/?p=4684\">Kitty Crowther<\/a><\/strong>, and many others.<br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\n<center><strong><font size=4><em>On what&#8217;s next:<\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/center><br \/>\n<BR>&nbsp;<BR><br \/>\nBecause picture books are my passion, I&#8217;m working on a book I&#8217;m both writing and illustrating. It has to do with funny clothes and a child, I can&#8217;t say more!
