7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #608,
the 2018 Southern Festivals of Books Edition

h1 October 14th, 2018 by jules

That’s a post title with a handful of numbers, now isn’t it.

Here’s what I’m doing this weekend, and it’s a little bit different. I’m typing this on Friday, because tomorrow (Saturday, which will be yesterday when you read this) I will be at the wonderful Southern Festival of Books alllll day. I will not only be able to kick back and hear a lot of talented authors and illustrators speak (here’s the line-up), but I will also interview Justice Sonia Sotomayor about her two new children’s books. I’m excited to meet her, to say the least.

For Tennessee’s own fabulous and informative Chapter 16, I did an online Q&A with Madame Justice, which you can read here. I also interviewed British author and illustrator Cressida Cowell (whom I hope to hear speak on Saturday) about her newest fantasy novel for children. That is here. (Pictured here is Justice Sotomayor’s adaptation for middle-grade readers of her bestselling memoir.)

I will share seven separate kicks next week. Today (Sunday, the day you’re reading this — confused yet?), all seven kicks (plus some) are that it’s my youngest daughter’s birthday! She is officially a teenager today. We shall party down all day.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Good morning, Imps!

Happy birthday, junior Imp! I hope she has a fantastic day, Jules, and I hope you had fun at the festival, too.

    My kicks from the week:
    1) Ease
    2) Timing
    3) Sight
    4) Sights
    5) Good stories
    6) Real time
    7) Camaraderie

  2. This is the coolest! Jules, hope you had a wonderful time at the Festival, and happiest of birthdays to your newly minted teenager! Hope you all have lots of fun celebrating and lots of cake!

LW – timing is wonderful kick, as is real time, good stories and camaraderie – sounds like you had a great week.

    My kicks this week:
    1) An exciting new project in beginning stages.
    2) Sunshiney crisp fall weather.
    3) Watched Game Night, very fun.
    4) Caught up on The Good Place.
    5) Lazy Sunday mornings with Daisy, coffee and a good book.
    6) Watched the RBG movie and it is wonderful. She is such an inspiration.
    7) Reading your Q & A with Justice Sotomayor & seeing the cute picture of her with the young fan. It makes my heart happy that she is friendly with RBG.
7.5) Getting outside in the beautiful fall weather.

    Have a wonderful week Imps!

  3. LW, good stories are our salvation.

Rachel: I had a GREAT time at the festival. The Justice was sooo gracious. It was an incredible experience. …. We saw Game Night recently, too. Very fun. EVERYone keeps telling me to watch The Good Place. Speaking of your sixth kick, the Justice took questions from some children on Saturday, and one was: “What it is like to work with Ruth Bader Ginsburg?” That got a huge laugh. She told a lovely story about Ginsburg’s kindness.

Have a good week, and enjoy the Fall weather, you all!

  4. Jules – so glad you had a great time, and not surprised to hear how gracious Justice Sotomayor was. It sounds like such a fun experience and totally geeking out in awe that you got to meet her.
