7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #627: Featuring Micha Archer
February 24th, 2019 by jules
Up for some poetry? And math? And science? Over at BookPage, I’ve a review of Laura Purdie Salas’s Snowman – Cold = Puddle: Spring Equations (Charlesbridge, February 2019), illustrated by Micha Archer. I love this playful book, and it makes me want to snap my fingers and be in a school library again so that I can share it with both students and teachers.
That review is here if you’d like to read more about the book, and here at 7-Imp today I’ve some of Archer’s art from the book.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.
I have been under the weather all week, so my kicks one to seven today are, no doubt, that I can sit upright at this point and not feel dizzy. And it is a wonderful feeling. Sorry to not be more exciting, but I slept this week more than anything else.
What are YOUR kicks this week?
I love this book. I featured it at Check It Out for Poetry Friday. In fact you could win a copy by posting a comment. I love the art work. Collage fascinates me.
by Jone February 24th, 2019 at 9:13 amJules, I’m glad to hear that you are on the mend. I hope you have a better week.
My kicks:
1. Waking up to snow falling this morning. Not suppose to last though. It’s beautiful.
2. Seeing the Oregon Ballet perform Cinderella. So beautiful. My friend’s son was the Prince.
3. The equation poems from two classes using Snowman-Cold=Puddle as a mentor txt were fun.
4. Fireplace with a fire.
5. Writing.
6. Time with firends.
7. Movies.
Have a great week.
Hope you’re feeling even better soon! Thanks for featuring Micha’s art. I feel so lucky that she brought her magic to my words–thrilled that you enjoyed the book!
I’ve been under the weather, too, so my two main kicks this week were making it through a school visit even with barely any voice (and the school was fabulous!) and playing games Friday night with some friends from the children’s book world. Well, and now your lovely review/post, too!
by Laura Purdie Salas February 24th, 2019 at 11:36 amHappy Sunday, Imps! Hello, Micha and Laura. Yay for the science of spring.
Jules: Sending you healthy thoughts! Rest up.
Jone: Congrats to the prince, and the entire company!
My kicks from the past week:
by Little Willow February 24th, 2019 at 12:24 pm1) Steps
2) Options
3) Opportunities
4) Decisions
5) Firm
6) Flowers
7) Peaceful
What a great book! Love the words and the illustrations – a wonderful combination, and another book added on my list for future presents for my nephews.
Jules – sorry you were under the weather, glad you are feeling better!
Jone – It was nice waking up to pretty snow, all gone now. Hooray for friends, poetry, movies and a fire in the fireplace.
Hi Laura – thank you for sharing your book!
LW – Options and Opportunities with Firm Decisions sounds like a good week. So do Peaceful Flowers. Go you!
My kicks:
1) Very busy week (busier than usual) and I survived it.
2) My network of friends and colleagues who sent advice, resources and support for some court stuff I asked for backup on – I am so lucky to have that support and help.
3) Being a zealous advocate – its always an honor when a client trusts you to be their voice.
4) Watched “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” what a fascinating story. Melissa McCarthy and Richard Grant are both so good.
5) Coffee to power me through the days, sweet Daisy snuggles for winding down at home.
6) Brandy Clark’s Twelve Stories album, Sunday morning soundtrack. Such great lyrics: “Who’d’a guessed/that Aquanet/Could start a fire/with a single cigarette?”
7) A meetup with friends for drinks on Saturday that landed us a surprise tour of a recording studio that was so cool it made me wish I was a musician.
7.5) Feeling grateful. For my lucky life, good work, good friends, soft places to land like 7Imps, and good people in the world.
Have a great week Imps!
by Rachel February 24th, 2019 at 3:56 pmRachel: That sounds like a VERY kickin’ week!
by Little Willow February 24th, 2019 at 6:38 pmJone: Snow! It feels like spring here, and my girls are on their THIRD day off from flooding. (We are fine, but some roads in the county are pretty bad.)
Laura! Feel better soon. Thanks for this lovely book.
LW: I love the possibilities that “steps” opens in one’s mind.
Rachel: I love that lyric. …. Also, I really want to see McCarthy’s movie. Thanks for the reminder. Love your last kick. It says it all.
Have a good week, you all!
