I don’t know if you’ve heard…

h1 February 19th, 2008 by Eisha and Jules

… but there’s a little thing called the Cybils (The Children’s & YA Bloggers’ Literary Awards) and it’s kind of a big deal. Thursday the award winners were announced, and it’s a fine-looking crop of books if you ask us:

We are proud to have served for a second year with the Cybils. This year, Jules acted as Fiction Picture Books organizer and served on the Picture Books Nominating Committee. Eisha acted as organizer for Nonfiction Picture Books and served on the Young Adult Fiction Nominating Committee. We’d both like to thank everyone who worked with us for all their blood, sweat, tears, passion, and patience. Most of you had to go out of your way to hunt down copies of nominated books. Some of you even spent your own money to purchase them or mail your copies to fellow panelists. You read, and read, and read. And blogged a little. And read some more. Some of you had conversations that went like this:

“Hey, ___, wanna go to a movie?”

“Can’t. I have to read 123 young adult novels before January.”

“Serious? It’s November! How many have you read?”

“Twelve. And a half.”

“Huh. Okay…um, see you in 2008.”

And then you charted, and ranked, and listed, and discussed, and discussed, and discussed. Lather, rinse, repeat. Ad infinitum. You argued, you pleaded, you pontificated, you listened, you compromised. And ultimately, you agreed, and recognized some very very special books, and made some authors and illustrators very very happy.

Anyway, all this to say… thanks. And see you again this fall.
