I’ve got a review over at BookPage of Barney Saltzberg’s Inside This Book (are three books), released by Abrams Appleseed this month. That is over here if you’d like to read about the book, and here at 7-Imp today I share a bit of art from the book.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

1) I traveled again this week, this time for work. And the best kick of all is that, since I was in her neck of the woods, I got to meet up with the kicker you all know and love so well, Moira Swiatkowski. I’m so glad she was willing to travel to Boston to meet me.

2) In fact, we ended up meeting up at Boston’s Kidlit Drink Night, where I got to meet a lot of nice people — and I got to see one of the editors at Candlewick who worked on Wild Things!

3) It was lovely to see my co-workers in Concord, Mass. We all work virtually from our respective homes, so to see all of them in person once a year is always fun.

4) It was even better to come home to my family.

5) Though it was cold and sleeting in Boston, it’s most definitely Spring in Tennessee.

6) NPR has a First Listen for both Villagers’ new CD, as well as Lowland Hum’s.

7) Have I mentioned how brilliant Laura Marling’s new CD is? (I may very well have. If I’m being redundant, sorry! Big fan here.) One of her best (and most accessible) yet.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Jules – The weather has much improved since you were here. It was sunny and in the 50s, yesterday.

1.&2. are the same as Jule’s first two kicks. It was worth the trip to see you and to meet our new friends.
    3. Figuring out how I want a piece to come together. I love those, “Eureka!” moments.
    4. Seeing my daughter dance in Cinderella with her dance school made me very proud to see how far she’s come.
    5. The Pirates have their first little
    league game this week.
    6. Looking at the clear sky and bright stars last night reminded me that everything is a miracle and that the small stuff is indeed very small.
I went the whole day without my winter coat yesterday.
    Have a great week all!

  2. “Writing poems from here to the moon”…lovely. Thanks, Barney.
Jules, how fun to be at a Kidlit drink night. And to meet up with Moira. Ours in Portland fizzled a long time ago.:-(
Moira, congrats on your Eureka moment. And congrats for spring being on its way finally.
    My kicks:
    1. Spring break at home.
    2. Having two daughters who have helped us with getting-ready-to-sell-this-house projects.
    3. Hanging with oldest Grandgirl yesterday while her mom painted. It’s her Zen moment to paint.
    4. Writing poetry everyday for the Double LL project.
    5. Having my poetry posts shared on Facebook.
    6. Reading my grandmother’ journal from 1915-1919.
    7. Transcribing the journal for my brother and nieces to read on line through Google docs.
    Have a great week.

  3. Good morning, Imps! Happy Sunday!

Hello to Barney and the dinosaurs.

Jules and Moira: Hurrah for the meet-up!
Jules: Glad you enjoyed your travels.

    3) Offers
    4) Conversations
    5) Connecting
    6) Trust
    7) Happiness

  4. Moira, yes, I heard it’s warmed up. I was laughing on Friday that the local meteorologist kept repeatedly using the phrase “the leading edge of Spring as we know it” with a hint of desperation in his voice. Love your sixth kick. Amen to that, though I wish I lived where I could actually see the stars clearly.

Jone, hope you enjoyed your Spring Break. Getting ready to sell the house? Good luck!

Little Willow, as always, BREAK A LEG at those auditions.

  5. Such fun art this week!

Jules – glad you got meet up with Moira (and others) in Boston. Coming home after travels is such a lovely feeling. Will check out the music links later.

Moira – glad you got meet up with Jules! Hooray for dancers and little league players!

Jone -glad you had a good spring break. Sounds like a poetry and project filled week. So very cool you have your grandmother’s journal!

LW – Congrats on the opening! Love your kicks 4-7! Kick 4 always leads to kick 7 for me.

    My kicks this week:
    1) Being able to give support to a friend.
    2) Getting 2 small house projects done.
    3) Daisy’s improving leash manners.
    4) A long night of work while simultaneously binge-watching Californication.
    5) Remembering to be patient.
    6) Getting my hair done and catching up with my 2 lovely hair stylists – it’s always a fun day when I get to see them.
    7) Game of Thrones tonight!

    Have a wonderful week everyone!

  6. I burst out laughing at the first illustration. What a hoot! Thanks for sharing the artwork.
It is wonderful that you and Moira got to meet and enjoy a bookish evening with friends, Jules. But I know the bliss of coming home. My house is my sanctuary.
I really like your number 6 kick Moira. I have always felt this way but something is making the feeling stronger and stronger.
I am happy to see you celebrating Poetry Month Jone.
So very glad to see happiness on your list Little Willow. Wishing you more.
Whenever I go to get my hair done Rachel, I always think to myself I should do it more often. Nice to be pampered.

    2. Two days with temperatures over 50
    3. Birdsong
    4. Working in the gardens

6 and 7 Walking, sitting and napping with Xena

    Have a wonderful week all.

  7. Rachel, wish I could watch GOT tonight, but I gotta wait a loooong time for the DVD. … Love your first kick, but I bet your friend loves it even more!

Margie, we all walked today (beautiful Spring day), and I really enjoyed the birdsong, in particular. You know it’s been a good day when you’ve taken time to hear that.

    Have a good week, all!
