I’ve got a review here over at BookPage of Bill Martin Jr and Michael Sampson’s Listen to Our World (Paula Wiseman Books, March 2016), illustrated by Melissa Sweet.

As a follow-up today, Melissa shares some art — as well as a few early sketches.

Enjoy!

Melissa: “This book had the slimmest of preliminary work. It was just a half-scale dummy, and the art was created as I went along. It’s interesting that some projects call for diving in, [while] some need more planning. This one benefited from
beginning with no holds barred.”

“In the oozy swamp, crocodiles glide through the algae.

“In the blue sea, whales swim through the waves.
The ocean is their world. Wahhh …”
