7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #505: Featuring a Dragon with a Taco

h1 October 16th, 2016 by jules

I’m doing something different today. No illustrations for you—I’ll be back early this week with some, as always—but you all remember Adam Rubin’s Dragons Love Tacos, illustrated by Daniel Salmieri, which came out in 2012, yes? I posted about it here (and here).

Well, evidently, there’s a new edition of the book that comes with a dragon/taco toy. And I don’t normally get this excited about plush, but boy, do I love that book. So, I was pretty happy to see this and wanted to share a photo of it today.

TACO PARTY, anyone?

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

It’s a very busy weekend with my youngest daughter turning eleven (!!) and the Southern Festival of Books. So, I’m a quick blur today, but I’m here. Promise.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. What a great dragon! Will need to check it out.
Jules, hard to believe that youngest is 11. My middle grand girl will be eleven in February. I don´t know where the time has flown.
    My kicks:
    1. Preparing for a storm which was nasty on the coast but had weakened and wasn´t much by my house. A couple of gusts.
    2. Time to read on the couch.
    3. Discovering new research on Island of the Blue Dolphins.
    4. Time with oldest grandgirl.
    5. Leaves scattering.
    6. Lots of nominations for CYBILS Poetry.
    7. Book club tonight: The Lake House by Kate Morton.
    Have a great week.

  2. Jone — ignorant as I am of 90% of children’s literature, I’d never heard of the Isle of the Blue Dolphins… nor of the fascinating true history behind it. All of which said, I’ve just spent the greater part of the last hour immersed in it all!

Here‘s one of the most recent pieces I found, from the LA Times in 2015. And there’s a link on this page to a recording of a song which the Lone Woman allegedly sang in her unknown tongue. The recording, made in 1915, is NOT in her own voice, but in that of someone who (I think) heard 2nd- or 3rd-hand reports of her singing it.

    Thanks for the history lesson!

(And I hope you are well, Jules!)

  3. Happy Sunday Jules! I gifted Dragons Love Tacos and the new plush to a class a week ago. I hope it gets lots of love. I’ll bet you are having a marvelous time at the Southern Festival of Books.
Jone: I’m glad you weathered the storm. It looked to be a nasty one on NOAA.
    Hello to you JES.

    My kicks:
    1. Completiing another garden; the front gardens and south side are done. Now on to the north side and back. I think winter is going to beat me though.
    2. I love autumn; the feel of the air, the brilliant blue skies and the colorful leaves on the trees and when they fall
    3. Children’s laughter
    4. Sharing and reading great books
    5. Reading a book from cover to cover during a Sunday morning storm; Still A Work In Progress by Jo Knowles
    6. Listening to The Wild Robot on audio. I loved the print version.
    7. Counting the days until the new puppy can come home.

    Have a wonderful week all.

  4. Jules – Happy Birthday to the 11 year old! Hope y’all have been having fun celebrating, and lots of cake.

Love that cute plush dragon! Plush stuffed toys don’t last long in my house – I stock up at Goodwill for Daisy and she shreds them with glee.

Jone – its always fun to make fun of the news hype “stormpocalypse 2016” but I’m also always glad when they’re wrong and its not so bad. Reading on the couch is such a perfect way to get through this rainy weather.

    Hi JES!

Margie – hooray for gardening accomplishments and the sweet anticipation of a new puppy.

    My quick kicks:
    1) Good work with good, smart people.
    2) Random moments of funny in an otherwise serious courtroom.
    3) Cute chatty 4 year olds.
    4) SNL
    5) Finished Mindy Kaling’s book – Jules, I think you’d like it, she’s so conversational & fun.
    6) Crawfish boil dinner with friends earlier in the week.
    7) Daisy sliding down a slide in the park with a smile. She’s such a good, sweet, funny dog, & her confidence and happiness have really blossomed in the past 2 years.
7.5) Saturday nights spent with hot chocolate and warm clothes, snuggled on the sofa & re-watching Season 1 of The West Wing.

    Have a great week Imps!

  5. Hello, Imps! I’ve never seen a dragon with a taco before.

Jules: Happy birthday to your eleven-ty Imp! Hope you are having fun at the festival.

Thanks to everyone who participated in Rock the Drop! If you weren’t able to drop a book on Friday, feel free to do so at your convenience. Donate books to a local family shelter, hospital, school, or library. Do a local book drive. Start a little free library. Share the love of books.

Jone: Have fun at book club, and enjoy the CYBILS poetry.

Margie: Hurrah for another garden. I also enjoy books by Jo Knowles.

My kicks for the past week:
    1) Showtime
    2) Laughter
    3) Harmony
    4) Auditions
    5) Certainty
    6) Stability
    7) Go

  6. Jone, glad you were safe from the storm AND had time to read on the couch.

John: I hope you are well too!

Margie: NEW PUPPY! When will he or she be there? … Does Peter read his own novel on the audio?

Rachel, that sounds like a good Saturday night, and I love the image of Daisy sliding. Oh, and thanks for the recommendation. Glad the whole thing was enjoyable.

    Little Willow: Go go go!
