7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #538: Featuring Matthew Cordell

This week in the world of social media, I saw these pen-and-ink drawings done by author-illustrator Matthew Cordell, and I love them so. I asked for his permission to share them here, and voilà! Here they are. Evidently, he made these drawings while watching his daughter slayin’ it, as he put it, at a recent Matilda performance. Isn’t she fierce?

Actually, I stand corrected: It’s award-winning author-illustrator Matthew Cordell. Just last week, when the 2017 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards were announced, Matt’s Wolf in the Snow was named an Honor book in the Picture Book category. (Here is where Matt and I chatted about it back in February.) Congrats to him! I was really happy with all those winning books.

2) All the minutes I get to spend with my friend, Robin.

3) The kindness of a big circle of friends.

4) Book club this past week — good books, strong wine, delicious food, great company.

5) Getting my copy of the 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on vinyl.

6) Night-swimming, even if it’s cold.

7) Tonight, I’ll see Joan Shelley live in Nashville. I’m really looking forward to it.

    Jules – your book club sounds delightful, and glad for your strong and kind circle of friends, and time spent with your friend Robin. I’m streaming some Joan Shelley now, have a wonderful time tonight!

    My kicks this week:
    1) Good brainstorming sessions for work.
    2) Work that took me on beautiful drives in the countryside.
    3) “Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?” made my morning Thursday.
    4) Lord Buckethead and his Manifesto.
    5) J.K. Rowling
    6) Just started Carrie Fisher’s “The Princess Diarist.” Feels like getting reacquainted with an old friend.
    7) The inspirational people I am lucky enough to meet through work, just chugging along, living their lives, doing good things in the world.
    7.5) Daisy making me laugh, which happens daily.
