I’ve got a review over at BookPage of Richard Jackson’s This Beautiful Day (Caitlyn Dlouhy/Atheneum, August 2017), illustrated by Suzy Lee.

That is here, and below are a couple more spreads from the book.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. * * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

This weekend was the memorial service to celebrate the life of my friend, Robin Smith, so my kicks one to seven (plus some) are that beautiful service and all the joy Robin brought to people’s lives.

  2. From your review: “…the family sits outdoors, popsicles in hand, happy for the beautiful day they were smart enough to spot before the sun ever showed.”

Boy, Jules — that could be the epigraph for an anthology of your “7 Kicks” posts. Again, sorry for your loss, but also very happy and grateful for the beautiful days I know she must have pointed you towards.

And if you don’t mind, I think I’ll just accept the spirit of your own multiple kicks — and of these excerpts from This Beautiful Day — for my own today. Thank you for giving us this beautiful place, week after week.

  3. Jone: That is a week we should all have. Ocean, family, books, s’mores, and more books.

Jules – so very sorry for the loss of your friend Robin, and glad to hear her memorial was such a fitting joyous celebration of her.

Jone – your beach trip sounds like perfect summer fun.

JES – agree wholeheartedly with your all-encompassing kick. This is a special place Jules has created, and even on days I don’t kick, it is such a pick-me-up to read the kicks and gratefulness of others.

LW – snail mail surprises are simply the best. And yay for joy, visits, support and opportunities.

  6. Little Willow: Speaking of fans and AC, is it very humid where you are?

Rachel: You reminded me to go watch that trailer, so thank you. … Coffee, sunshine, and music. Three things that make any day better. Also, Caprese salads. Mmm. I’ve had one nearly every day this summer.

  7. Jules, this book looks like a treat.

I am sorry to hear of your friend’s passing, but her memorial sounds like it was just right to honor her life.

Jones: I would go to the beach every day if I could! I love all of your kicks.

Jes: So very well said. Here, at this blog, is a beautiful place.

Little Willow: Snail mail and AC – both make me happy, too.

Rachel: Ooh, I saw that trailer just now! What fun! And your other kicks sound like the best kind of summer.
