“And the ash of those dying stars gathered into planets, and the planets circled other stars. But still … no bluebirds, no butterflies, still no snails, no giraffes,
still no you, no me.”

Are you all ready to get cosmic? I’ve a review over at BookPage of Marion Dane Bauer’s The Stuff of Stars (Candlewick, September 2018), illustrated by Ekua Holmes. That is here.

Today here at 7-Imp, I’ve a bit of art from the book.

“Waiting, waiting, dividing, changing, growing.
Until at last, YOU burst into the world.”

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

Dear kickers, I’m sorry, once again this week, to not have seven separate kicks, but I’m keeping it short today, too. There is a Danielson birthday this week, so I’m going to get back to celebrating. Please do tell me …

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Ooh, I’ve seen this book on FB. Bauer is a favorite author. I’ve loved her chapter books.
    Jules, let the celebrations continue!
    My kicks:
    1. Home again after 12 days away. Love traveling but returning home is the best.
    2. My former district reached a Tentative Agreement at 3 AM PST this morning. They were on strike 8 days.
    3. Seeing Buster! He boarded while we traveled.
    4. Friends.
    5. The cool of the morning in the NW.
    6. Finished Lovely, Dark, and Deep by Justina Chen.
    7. DNA results finished and revealed. Most I knew and a couple surprises.
    Have a great week.

  2. Jone, you mean THIS Buster? Be still, my heart.

Glad you had a good trip, and your second kick is great news. We are also having DNA testing done. I’m eager to see the results.

  3. Good morning, Imps and Ekua!

Jules: Happy birthday to the one(s) celebrating!

    Jone: Fun times.

    My kicks:
    1) Performance
    2) Vibrant
    3) Thorough
    4) Glitter
    5) Paced
    6) Communication
    7) Rest

  4. What a gorgeous book.

Happiest of birthday celebrations! Hope there is lots of cake involved Jules.

Jone – coming home after travels really is the best. Jealous you saw Buster!

LW – kick 2 is how I see you. And hooray for kick 7. Rest is good.

Flyby kicks for me today, busy work week. But main kick is my network of colleagues and friends who always jump in to help on big projects, I am incredibly lucky to have them in my life.

Also thankful this week for nostalgia – re-watched Smokey and the Bandit in appreciation for Burt Reynolds AND Sally Field in the movies of my youth.

    Have a great week everyone!

  5. Little Willow: I hope you broke a leg, as always, and performed vibrantly and glitterly.

Rachel: Yes, chocolate Guinness cake with cream cheese frosting. The BEST. Glad you had a good work week and have reliable, kick-ass colleagues.

Have a good week, you all!

  6. Rachel: Thanks!! Good luck with your next project!

    Jules: Thanks!! It’s what I do. 🙂
