7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #618:
Featuring Laura Nyman Montenegro

h1 December 23rd, 2018 by jules

I love this piece of art from Laura Nyman Montenegro. She shared it on Instagram, and I secured her permission to share it here. Below is what she wrote about it:

Right now, at the darkest time of the year, is the most crazy mashup of tradition and transition and I love that the beautiful little deer plays such a big part in it. Why not sensitive and delicate, moving slowly through the trees? Why not that be where we are going?

Yes yes yessity yes. And how I do love deer.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

1) A lovely meal earlier this week with friends, as well as my book club last week. At book club, we read aloud our favorite excerpts from Jonathan Auxier’s Sweep and had a little partaaaay. It was pretty much the best.

2) I am really enjoying this book (pictured left).

3) I loooove this story, and I wish Stephanie the very best of luck with her two new picture books!

4) I am also enjoying Forma Antiqva’s new album, Concerto Zapico Vol. 2. Here’s a taste.

5) Surprising the girls by taking them to the new Mewsic Kitty Cafe where we got to have hot chocolate and Christmas snacks and, best of all, pet cats for an hour.

6) The holiday lights at Cheekwood.

7) A friend sent me this NYT story on glitter, and it is a HOOT. All the secrecy. Who knew?

BONUS: Speaking to the children’s librarians at Nashville Public Library this week about the best children’s books of the year.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

Happy holidays to you all!

  5. One last extra kick! If you happen to get the Starz channel, they are showing the 2018 Oscar nominated best Short Films, including the winner “The Silent Child”.

The Silent Child is so very very good.

All of them are worth your time.

  6. Little Willow: Enjoy your days off! I get some too, and I’m looking forward to it.

Jone: Love those last few kicks. I so badly want to see The Favourite.

Laura: Thank YOU. Happy holidays to you and yours, too!

Rachel: Elf never fails to make me laugh. Thanks for that last kick, and I love it when you all visit. Congrats on the court win — so glad you celebrated it with colleagues.

I will have to see where else I can see The Silent Child, because I don’t have Starz. But I’m intrigued.

    Happy merry to all!

  7. Jules – this is the trailer for The Silent Child, looks like its on youtube & google play, & itunes for streaming.
