7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #619: Featuring Ashley Wolff

h1 December 30th, 2018 by jules

I’m here to wish you all a happy 2019 with a piece of art (scanned from my own collection) from author-illustrator Ashley Wolff. These colors and textures make me happy, and when I see this, I like to imagine I can hear an owl hooting. Given that I live in Deepest Suburbia, I’m not normally privy to the beautiful call of an owl. But I can go there in my mind when I see this.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

I’m going to keep it simple this week, since I’ve enjoyed having some time off and lots of quiet time to read. I had a good, kicky Christmas, and I hope you all had a similarly kicky holiday, whatever you celebrate. I’m going to get back to quiet reading time, but next week I promise to have seven separate kicks. Happy New Year to all!

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Same here. Despite not really feeling any spirit up until the last minute, this year’s Christmas was one of the most magical I’ve ever had and I am so very thankful for my kids and their heart and enthusiasm. I can’t believe 2019 is a day and a half away, Happy and Healthy New Year!

My kicks are all wrapped up in making into the mountains north east of LA and it SNOWED. It was beautiful. I’m so grateful.
Thanks for continuing to work on this blog. Can’t wait to see what you have to share in 2019.

  5. Happy Sunday to each of you!
I simply can’t believe this year is coming to a close.

I love that image Jules. My favorite books of Ashley’s are her bear books.

My kicks for this week can be summed up as my gratitude for this year.
    1. I am still settling into my fourth house in three years.
    2. Each season is spectacular; especially the expanses seen from my hilltop.
    3. My canine companion is a continuous source of laughter.
    4. I love talking about children’s books on my blog and reading, reading and more reading.
    5. I love this blog, Jules. You’ve done so much for children’s literature.
    6. Grateful for food, heat, shelter, clothing and health.

    Happy 2019 to you all.

  6. Dropping in to say thank you for this lovely owl – perfect way to send off the old year – looking back with wisdom.

Here’s to days off and quiet time. This past year was certainly difficult at times, yet overall it has been a good year for me, so I have much to be thankful for. That includes this lovely spot in the universe, which is always a safe place to land, no matter the upheaval elsewhere. I am grateful for Jules for creating it, and all of you for shared moments of joy, happiness, music, art, humor and light – sustenance for the soul.

Wishing everyone a wonderful new year full hope, happiness, health, humor and love!

  7. Jerrold, that makes me happy to hear.

Jone, thanks! I’m so grateful you are here so consistently.

LW: Glad you are getting rest — AND granola.

Allison: I’m jealous. I am crossing fingers for snow in January. We sometimes get a bit. There’s nothing better than a Snow Day.

Margie: I do love those Bear books, too. I LOOOOOVE your kicks and how they are a step back to see large gratitude. I’m grateful for your blog, too, Margie. (Large Gratitude. Band name. I call it.)

Rachel: THANK YOU, too! You are all making me misty-eyed. I’m grateful when you all show up here each week. I have thought before about ceasing Sunday kicks, but the thought never lasts long, because I always love to hear from you all, and it’s a lovely exercise for me. So, onwards and upwards.

Happy 2019 (almost!) to you all ….
