7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #635: Featuring
Carl and the Meaning of Life

h1 April 21st, 2019 by jules

I’m sending you to the Horn Book’s site this morning for a review I wrote of Deborah Freedman’s Carl and the Meaning of Life (Viking, April 2019). How about that wonderful title?

The review is here, if you’re so inclined to read it.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

I’m going to take my seven-kicks space here today to wish you all a happy Easter, however you celebrate it. I always find it fun to dye eggs with my creative daughters, so that will probably happen today. Happy Spring to all you kickers!

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  3. Happy Easter all! Really digging Carl and The Meaning of Life and its great story. Perfect pick for today.

Jules – hope y’all have fun with egg dyeing and have a wonderful day!

Jone – great kicks! Where in NM are you going? I lived in Santa Fe during my college years and for several years afterwards. NM is gorgeous, hope you have a fantastic trip! (Tecolote Cafe is an awesome breakfast spot, and Maria’s of Santa Fe is an institution for traditional lunch and dinner, and The Pink Adobe is pretty great too.)

LW – love your kicks this week – they all combine to bring to mind solid and grounded strength.

My kicks are that Daisy is healing nicely, getting lots of rest, and I am lucky to be able to spend considerable time with her right now. Also, cooking Shrimp Creole tonight for my small Game of Thrones watch party.

    Have a wonderful week everyone!

  4. Jone, lucky kids. Safe travels to you!

    LW: Good, solid, safe kicks.

Rachel: I’m happy to read Daisy is recovering well. Yay! Happy GOT-watching!

  5. Jone: Have a fun and safe trip!

Hi Daisy! So glad you are healing, pup! 🙂

    Jules and Rachel: Thanks!

  6. I love this book so much, Jules. I have been cheering for Deborah Freedman and her books for years. Thank you for featuring it here.

I hope you and your girls enjoyed your egg dyeing.

I have always wanted to go to New Mexico, Jone. Enjoy your trip.
I salute you for your one word kicks Little Willow. I am particularly fond of strong this week.
So happy to read Daisy is continuing to mend, Rachel.

    My kicks:
    1. I heard the spring peepers a few nights ago.
    2. Tulip and daffodil leaves are braving the cooler nights.
    3. I see buds on my hydrangea bushes. Fingers crossed they survived the ravage of the rabbits this winter.
    4. The last of the snow on my property left yesterday.
    5. Sun
    6. Nurseries filling up with trees, shrubs and plants
    7. Walks with sweet Mulan.

    Have a great week!

  7. Margie, these kicks are fitting to read today, Earth Day. I bet you’re ready for the absence of snow, though your winter pictures are … wow … always beautiful.

Have a good week, you all!
