7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #657:
Featuring a Reminder to Picture Book Fans …

h1 September 29th, 2019 by jules

I had different plans for today, dear Imps, but some unexpected events in my Saturday ate up my day — and kept me from formatting the post I wanted to format. I’ll have that later this week at 7-Imp, but what I do have for you today is a reminder that over at the Horn Book’s Calling Caldecott, we are taking deep dives into some of the most outstanding picture books of the year — including, thus far, the ones pictured above. So, if you love picture books, you can head over there to see some of what our talented guest posters have had to say this year.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

1) Going to see the school play at my daughters’ school with my youngest.

2) This wonderful profile of the great Rudine Sims Bishop.

3) This interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates. I’m eager to read the new novel, but I’ll see him speak in Nashville in November — and with my ticket to that event comes a copy of the new book.

4) I was really happy to see Jharrel Jerome win an Emmy for his outstanding performance in When They See Us.

5) Also, Phoebe Waller Bridge racked up a few wins! How about we just let her run the world?

6) New music from The New Pornographers.

7) Unexpected gifts in the mail.

BONUS: I’m hesitant to get my hopes up, but … impeachment.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  4. Jone, have fun Cybils’ing! I’d like to see a thunderstorm. It’s been very dry here for a long time.

Rachel, happy reading! Congrats on kick #1. Happy reading to your niece too. I am eager to see the HBO adaptation of Pullman’s books. I think it starts in November?

    Hi, Little Willow!

  5. Rachel: I hope your niece enjoys The Golden Compass! Thank you for sharing it with her.

Jules and Rachel: I hope the TV show adaptation is awesome! I don’t have that channel or I’d watch it immediately upon release.

Jone: Enjoy the books and the visits!

It’s been a kickin’ week! My kick list from the past week is filled with auditions, recordings, performances, and opportunities. All good kicks!
