7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #658: Featuring Come Next Season, Home in the Woods, and A Year with Mama Earth

Over at BookPage, I’ve got a round-up of three beautiful new picture books that take readers through all four seasons. The covers are pictured above, and the feature is here.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

I hate to be so brief today, but I have to keep things short. My week’s been consumed with helping my mother in a move she’s making from middle to East Tennessee, and so my time is limited. As you know, though, I loooooove to read your kicks, so do tell me:

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Love these titles and cover illustrations, as fall of course brings contemplation of trees and leaves and the changing seasons.

Jules – hope the move for your mother goes smoothly!

My kicks this week 1-7 are that after a very long day, filled with lots of court and driving, even though I was tired, after driving home and feeding Miss Daisy her dinner I got back in my car and drove to Powells Bookstore to see and hear and meet the incomparable Katherine Rundell!
She was charming and funny and smart and wonderful with the kids and adults all there to hear her. She is the sort of person that you instantly want to become your friend.
When I met her I shared that I first read The Wolf Wilder because of Jules and Seven Imps and showed her pictures of my wolf Cheyenne. (So if you’re wondering, no, I didn’t embarass myself AT ALL.)
Here’s a link to short bit of her telling us about the sorts of books and writers who inspired her, as well as favorite Shakespeare plays:

Happy October everyone! Have a fabulous week!

  2. Jules: I hope your mother has a smooth move to her new place, and I hope she loves it there!

My kicks from the past week:
    1) Music
    2) Editing
    3) Contemplating
    4) Planning
    5) Watching
    6) Considering
    7) Trying

  3. Rachel: I love this part of your story I didn’t know yet — that you showed her pics of Cheyenne. This is the BEST. So glad you got to meet her. I loved seeing that video. Now I want to re-read The Wolf Wilder.

Little Willow: You are a woman of many talents. Your kicks consistently remind me of this.

  4. Little Willow – love all your kicks but especially music, planning and considering and trying.

Jules – She was so enamored of my photos of Cheyenne she immediately asked if I still had her and was so clearly disappointed when I told her Cheyenne had passed some years ago. I think if Cheyenne were still alive KR would have demanded I bring her to Cheyenne to meet her. (And I would have been more than happy to oblige.)

  5. I can imagine that exact same thing, Rachel (even not having met her).

  6. Sorry for late posting. Been under the weather. But I loved seeing the autumnal books and reading everyone’s kicks. Jules, hope your mom’s move goes well, Rachel loved your Cheyenne kick, and Little Willow, music always.
    Have a good week.

  7. Feel better, Jone! Get lots of rest.
