7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #672: Featuring I Want a Dog

Happy new year, Imps!

The Horn Book has posted my review of Jon Agee’s I Want a Dog (Dial). Did any of you see this one back in September? Agee, I think, is a picture book master.

That review is here, if you’d like to read more about the book.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

My kicks, one to seven, are the new year (new DECADE!) and taking it easy all week to relax and read (and get over a head cold). I hope you kickers are having a lovely start to your 2020.

What are YOUR kicks this week? Please do tell.

  1. Happy new year, Imps! I am virtually hugging all of your pets!

Jules: Feel better soon! The cover of I Want a Dog makes me think of Clifford and Emily Elizabeth.

My kicks from the past week:
    1) Ideas
    2) Refunds
    3) Tangible
    4) Stories
    5) Taking your time
    6) Having the time to take your time
    7) Perseverance

  2. Jon Agee is a master.
Jules, feel better and here’s to a new decade!
LW, I love 5 and 6. Here’s to more time.
    My kicks:
    1. Summer planning.
    2. A quick trip to Astoria.
    3. The wreck of the Peter Iredale.
    4. Crocheting.
    5. Friends.
    6. Pittock Mansion: “Wonderful World of Books” display.
    7. New decade.
    Have a great week.

  3. Love that title and that big hug!

Jules – enjoy your time reading and resting and hope that cold passes quickly.

Little Willow – love kicks 5 and 6 especially this week, as well as that last kick.

Jone – yay for trips to Astoria and the wreck of the Peter Iredale, friends and planning for summer.

    My kicks this week:
    1) Rediscovering Austin Kleon & trying to make a list of 100 things that made my year in 2019 (I’m at 40 at the moment – it takes some time!)
    2) A project continuing to move forward.
    3) Watched The Farewell and it was so lovely and different and Awkwafina was wonderful in it.
    4) Watched Dolemite is My Name and alternately laughed and was amazed at the way Rudy Ray Moore created his success through hard work and sheer force of will and determination. Eddie Murphy was so good, such a fun movie.
    5) Did a re-watch of Moonstruck – perfect for a rainy day. Still so fun and funny.
    6) Reading Rebecca Traister’s Good and Mad. I have to read it in chapters to take it all in, so good.
    7) Looking forward to a visit from an out of town friend later this week.
7.5) Daisy sleeping (and snoring) while I have my coffee this morning – she’ll wake up as soon as she hears me making pancakes in the kitchen – which I am off to do.

Happy Sunday Imps! Hope the new year/new decade continues to be good to you all!

  4. Happy New Year Jules, Little Willow, Jone and Rachel! I love this book, added it to my personal collection and included it in a blog post this week. Agee makes me laugh and we can always use more of that.
Hope you feel better soon Jules.
Oh, how I love stories, Little Willow. I love listening to them.
Here’s to a new decade, Jone. May it be wonderful for you.
Re-watching Moonstruck is a great idea, Rachel

    My kicks:
    1. Enjoying the beauty of a winter storm.
    2. The power coming back on after nearly 3 hours during said storm
    3. Reading loads of books and blogging about them
    4. Cooking some favorite soups
    5. Still looking at my Christmas tree at night; I love the stories attached to the ornaments and how the lights reflect off of them.
    6. Major organizing
    7. Lovely, lovely walks with Mulan
    Have a wonderful week everyone.

  5. LW: Nice connection. I hadn’t considered Emily and Clifford, but I can of course see it now.

Jone: Happy New Decade! Happy summer planning too.

Rachel: I really want to see The Farewell AND Dolemite. I’ve never SEEN Moonstruck! Have fun with your friend this week.

Margie: What lovely kicks. Hugs to Mulan. I’m jealous of your winter. (I know storms can be dangerous, to be clear, but I’d like to see some SNOW.)

Have a good week, you all!
