I’ve got a review over at BookPage this month of what is one of my favorite 2017 picture books, if not my very favorite — Peter Sís’s Robinson (Scholastic, September 2017). JUST LOOK AT THOSE COLORS ABOVE!

You can read about it here at their site, and today at 7-Imp I’ve got a bit of art from the book.

If you want to see a bit more from the book and hear from Sís himself, you might enjoy the video at this link.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

Forgive me for my brevity today, but I think we’re all feeling rather fragile this week — maybe more so than normal, given the events in Las Vegas and our dim-witted, short-sighted Congress, who seem poised to do nothing about gun control.

I’m spending this weekend offline as much as I can (though I will show up Sunday to read your kicks, because they make life better) and spending as much of it as I can with my family. My girls are on their school’s Fall Break this week anyway.

Love to all.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Peter Sis always has the best books.
Jules, I’m happy that you’re spending the weekend offline. I keep wondering what it will take to change the congress’ position on gun control. Glad you have time with your girls.
    My kicks:
    1. Grandgirls.
    2. Return of the flickers to the suet.
    3. Fall leaves.
    4. Drive through the Columbia River Gorge. (They fire ravished it but there is still great beauty.
    5. Walking.
    6. Finding books for students.
    7. Snuggles with Buster.
    Have a great week.

  2. Good morning, Imps! Good morning, Peter! Good morning, purple goat!

Jules: I hope they have a wonderful fall break. Enjoy your time with your family.

My kicks for the past week:
    1) Anyway
    2) Card
    3) Through
    4) Healing
    5) Honesty
    6) Simple
    7) Okay

  3. Really love the illustrations and this story, and especially the photo of Peter Cis dressed up with his mother he shows in the video.

Definitely a rough week, all around.

    Quick kicks:
    1) The video of Peter Cis and his mom dressing him up reminded me of old photos of my mom dressed up as Robin Hood when she was young.
    2) SNL weekend update’s take on gun control.
    3) The Thorns won yesterday & are going to the NWSL championship game!
    4) Dodgers on 2 game winning streak in playoffs.
    5) Getting to hug my great neighbors goodbye yesterday – bittersweet kick, they have been awesome neighbors, but happy they got their dream home in a more rural area.
    6) Marionberry streudel fingers for breakfast.
    7) Snuggles with sweet Daisy, who learned a new trick this week.
7.5) Hearing about the heroes who acted quickly and saved lives in the midst of chaos and tragedy this past week.

Wishing us all a safer and more peaceful week.

  4. I meant to type “Las Vegas,” you all. Not “Los Angeles.” I’ve fixed that.

Jone, I’m jealous you already have Fall leaves. We’re close, though.

Little Willow: I hope “healing” doesn’t mean you were ill. If so, I’m glad you’re well. Or on your way.

Rachel: YES TO WEEKEND UPDATE ON GUN CONTROL! Michael Che and Colin Jost are kickin’ ass lately. …. Here’s hoping you get great new neighbors. And I’m going to have to look up what Marionberry Streudel Fingers are. They sound yummy, though.

Have a good week, you all. And a peaceful one, as Rachel put it.

  5. LW..simple honesty
    Rachel…Go Dodgers.

  6. I missed Sunday so will skip the kicks, although I enjoyed the ones I read here. I do want to say that this book is just gorgeous. I love it. I read it 3 times through in one sitting just to savor the colors and the design. I could have gone at least 3 more.

  7. “Gorgeous” is, indeed, the right word!
