7-Imp’s 7 Kicks #632: Featuring Hey, Water!

h1 March 31st, 2019 by jules

The Horn Book has posted at their site a review I wrote of Antoinette Portis’s Hey, Water! (Neal Porter Books/Holiday House, March 2019). Such a good book, this one. So, I’m sending you over to the Horn Book to read the review here, if you’re so inclined.

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

* * * Jules’ Kicks * * *

1) Spring Break for my girls this past week meant more time with them.

2) A delicious dinner with friends on Tuesday.

3) Drinks out with friends (one from out of town) on Friday night.

4) “Equator Line” by Lowland Hum.

5) Book club tonight — and kicking off some Caldecott reads.

6) The Good Place and Jeremy Bearimy:

That’s it for me this week. Someone else can take my last kick slot and kick extra! What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. HEY WATER looks to be a book to have.
Jules, a book club for children’s books? Sign me up. Glad Spring Break was fun.
    My kicks:
    1. Attending AWP. Wow if you were thinking on pursuing an MFA this was the place.
    2. Submitted poems to two magazines for kids.
    3. Sunshine and walking.
    4. Reading RUSH by David Fried.
    5. Friends.
    6. Planning for National Poetry Month.
    7. Spotted Towhee at the feeder.
Have a great week. It feels weird to not have an official spring break.

  2. Hey, Imps! Hey, Antoinette! Hey, water!

Jules: Glad that you all enjoyed spring break! There was a neat explanation of how time works on parallel universes on the series If I Hadn’t Met You.

Jone: Yay for so many happy kicks.

My kicks from the past week:
    1) Reading books
    2) Talking about books
    3) Reading scripts
    4) Scripts being performed
    5) Sleep
    6) Hope
    7) Laughter

  3. What a lovely book! The last few weeks I think I have bought or pre-ordered every book featured on Sundays for my little nephews. This one is no exception.

Jules – glad you had a good Spring break with your girls. Hooray for good dinners with friends and drinks with friends. I LOVE The Good Place.

Jone – you had a very literary week! Sounds awesome.

LW – Love all your kicks, especially 1, 5, 6 & 7. What could be better than books and hope and laughter?

    My kicks this week:
    1) Finished Laini Taylor’s “Muse of Nightmares” and really liked it.
    2) Started reading “The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise” and I am hooked.
    3) Started Game of Thrones at Season 1 again in prep for the finale season. I definitely have forgotten a lot.
    4) Picked up donuts for brunch from a local vegan donut shop – they were very good! especially the lemon snoball and french toast donuts.
    5) First backyard brunch of the year. And Daisy didn’t beg for treats too much during it.
    6) Cutting the grass and putting out summer furniture – including Daisy’s hammock.
    7) Seeing bulbs starting to bloom.
7.5) Work is still hectic but looking forward to some downtime in the near future.

    Have a great week Imps!

  4. Jone, good luck on the poetry submissions! Are you considering an MFA?

Little Willow: I will have to see if I can find that online. … Happy performing, as always.

Rachel: Glad 7-Imp can be a good resource. … I had considered re-watching GOT, too, but I don’t know that I have time. … I also did some yard work yesterday, and it felt good to be out there. Have a good work week!

Hope you ALL have a happy week.
