You kickers may remember me featuring a book back in February, called If I Had a Little Dream (Paula Wiseman Books). It was written by Nina Laden, and I featured some of Melissa Castrillon’s artwork from it—and linked to my BookPage review of it—here at 7-Imp.

When I was wondering which artwork to feature today, Mother’s Day, I thought of the last page of that picture book — and managed to get that illustration to share with you here.

Isn’t it lovely?

Note for any new readers: 7-Imp’s 7 Kicks is a weekly meeting ground for taking some time to reflect on Seven(ish) Exceptionally Fabulous, Beautiful, Interesting, Hilarious, or Otherwise Positive Noteworthy Things from the past week, whether book-related or not, that happened to you. New kickers are always welcome.

My kicks today, one to seven, are my daughters, who made me a mother (a recent pic from a trip to California is below), and all the people in my life who have mothered me.

I wish, for those of you celebrating today, a wonderful Mother’s Day.

What are YOUR kicks this week?

  1. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Imps and their families. 🙂 Jules, hugs to your girls! My kicks for the past week:

    1) The joy of friends
    2) Confirmed
    3) Practice
    4) Shelter
    5) Sharing
    6) Donate
    7) Crafts

  2. Thanks, Little Willow. I’m sure they’d hug you right back, though Piper’s hugs are so tight, they’re rather deathly (though they have the best of intentions, these sweet death grips).

I like your first kick and consider myself super lucky to be one of your friends.

  3. Love the artwork today. I just came up for air after doing a deep dive into your archives looking for an illustration that always comes to mind on Mother’s Day, and its the lovely Meet Me At the Moon, by Gianna Marino.

Jules – have a lovely day with your daughters!

LW – kicks 1 & 4 are especially wonderful to me this week.

    My kicks this week:
    1) My niece had her second baby last week & he is a perfect little muffin. Mama and baby are both well.
    2) This site – doing my deep dive reminded me how many great books I’ve gotten for family and friends due to seeing the books here. Jules, you are such a wonderful resource!
    3) Being the person so many of the kids (and some adults) in my life turn to for book recommendations. Its a nice feeling.
    4) Fun house-warming party for a friend’s new place.
    5) Long weekend walks with Daisy.
    6) Watching Sally Yates testify.
    7) Trying out a new wine bar downtown with friends.
7.5) Surprise hailstorms and unexpected and unusual thunderstorms yesterday.

Happy mothers day! Have a great week Imps!

  4. Jules: Back atcha. I would welcome the hug, because such strength is both impressive and an indication of joy.

Rachel: Congrats to the new little and his family! Yay for being the go-to person for book recommendations. I know exactly what you mean – I love being that person, too, for books, movies, music, to recommend something to someone for a specific reason and then have them come to you and say, “I LOVED that!”

  5. Hi Imps. Perfect art for today.
Jules, i hope you were spoiled today.
LW, #5 and #7 made me smile.
Rachel, the weather has been incredible this week, right. And hooray for Sally Yates.
    My kicks:
    1. Teacher appreciation and love shown all week.
    2. School benefit success.
    3. Walk to Starbucks.
    4. My daughters.
    5. SLN
    6. Kinder poetry.
    7. Sunsets.
    Have a great week.

  6. Back tomorrow! Promise.

  7. Thanks, Rachel! That means a lot. I’m so happy if 7-Imp can be a resource to people. Also, YES, SALLY YATES!

Little Willow: Yes! There’s joy in her hugs. Death-grip joy. Ha.

Jone, congrats on a great school benefit! If I’d read kindergartner poetry this week, that’d be a kick for me too.
